M A R K E T • U P D A T E by David Harris. This week he says "Bananas and blueberries are the good news stories in fruit this week this week. The run of fantastic eating, well priced blueberries is now entering its ninth week. The bigger fruit is definitely the best eating at this time. Banana prices are easing again and they make the perfect school lunch snack. First signs of mango prices easing are being seen this week, some 4 or 5 weeks later than last year. When they really get going we are going to have mangoes from a lot of different areas at the one time and prices will crash. This time of the year we are approaching the conclusion of our Northern Territory seedless melon and yet have also commenced the crops from far North Queensland, this doubling of supply means we have a short window where the price of melon barely pays for the freight to get it to Sydney. The rest of the stone fruit although it has started needs a little more time to mature. In the meantime it is mostly apples we are relying on for sales, and as mentioned elsewhere in this newsletter, Sundowners are a refreshing change here. Plenty of imported grapes and the post flood damage to much of our citrus crops continues to make our job harder in his area.

In veg, our snacking tomato range just got cheaper again, which is a good thing because the others are getting a bit dearer. The variety and price of these tomatoes is amazing. I do snack on them but in salads or cooked they are fabulous too! Broccolini remains well priced, zucchini are easing in price as local crops commence but the best bargains are cucumbers, all varieties including the mini lebs are very attractively priced this week."
