For animal lovers; the environmentally conscious and sustainability advocates ...
It's not just humans that suffer the effects of extreme poverty and hunger. When a villager is desperate they take desperate action to stay alive. They cut down trees for heating cooking and lighting; they poach animals for meat, skins and ivory sale; they destroy the environment to meet the basic human needs of food warmth and shelter. The result is a devastated eroded landscape denuded of any substantial vegetation and wildlife hunted to the brink of extinction.
The Hunger Project Malawi has partnered with African Wildlife Foundation to roll out the Epicentre program to 5 communities living adjacent to Majete Wildlife Conservation Park (a total of 700 hectares). Tens of thousands of people will lift themselves out of poverty and hunger. They will be trained in business skills, agricultural methods, environmental management and become resilient against climatic impacts on food and water supply.
What does this mean? Ultimately HAPPY thriving human beings and wildlife protection. A world where people and wildlife live respectfully side by side.
