M A R K E T • U P D A T E by David Harris. This week he says "Raspberries are flushing this week. This only happens a handful of times a year so it’s a great time to take advantage. Cherries are trickling into the market with quality being the challenge. The issues surrounding the cherry season have been well documented with rain reducing the crop to less than half of last year’s production. We have managed to get our hands on some really beautiful eating large cherries, however they are not cheap. There are some inferior cheaper lines of cherries around, however a word of caution - with the market on premium fruit upwards of $30.00 kg, I can only imagine that the cherries being sold cheaply will have a disappointing outcome. Another big week on mangoes is on the way with supply strong continuing out of the Darwin area. Rain last week has detracted a little from the appearance, but rest assured the fruit is eating as good as ever. R2E2’sfrom Darwin are now in good supply and are also eating excellent. Check out our Tray sale Kensington pride and R2E2’s this week as they tick the all the right boxes with price and quality. Hass avocados have also increased in supply with strong volumes arriving from New Zealand as well Western Australia. Expect to see prices ease over the coming weeks.Warmer weather in the growing areas has seen an increase in the supply a few of the vegetable lines week with the stand out being cauliflowers. Fantastic quality Victorian cauliflowers are flowing into the market with prices around half this time last week. Broccoli has also eased back as well as black zucchini, Dutch carrots, kale, beetroot, eggplant, mushrooms and cucumbers."
